Hotel Colonos del Sur S.A. is a family business from Puerto Varas, a subsidiary of Inversiones Santa Inés, which began which began in the hotel business in the early 90s, focusing on tourism development in the area.
Overlooking Llanquihue Lake and in the middle of the city waterfront, the construction of Gran Hotel Colonos del Sur began in 1991 on the foundations of the old Beach Hotel, the first hotel of German colonists who populated the area. At the end of the following year the hotel began to operate, increasing its capacity over the years to fill 71 rooms. It became one of the most traditional hotels in Puerto Varas until it was consumed by a fire in March 2006.
The reconstruction of Gran Hotel Colonos del Sur began in late 2007, but this time it was conceived as a 5 star hotel. This new and modern hotel, inaugurated in February 2009, is ruled by international standards of quality, but maintains the traditional characteristics of German colonial architecture from southern Chile.
The company also decided to expand its hotel proposal and bought an old German house, located in the center of the city, hoping to preserve the history of the German settlers that arrived in this area. This is how Westfalia Hotel was born in 1999, later expanding its capacity to 41 rooms and becoming Hotel Colonos del Sur Express. In 2006, a new remodeling and expansion project increased its capacity to 86 rooms, changing its name to Hotel Colonos del Sur. Other facilities were also included, such as Mirador Salon, located in the highest tower of the hotel.
In 2008, the hotel qualifies as "Tourist Accommodation” in the 4 star Hotel ranking, under the rule of Chilean tourist quality from the pilot program of the Tourist Service Quality System, led by Sernatur, Corfo and INN. That same year, just before the inauguration of the new 5-star Gran Hotel Colonos del Sur, the hotel settles on its final name: Hotel Colonos del Sur Mirador and was confirmed as one of the most recognized buildings in the city.
